Not having set foot on a pair of skis since I was a schoolboy some 49 years ago, and working with ski industry professionals for almost 30 years, I thought it was about time I gave it another go. Despite having little sense, no sense of balance, self-control or disposable income, my wife and I were persuaded by some ski-mad friends to go for it. Meribel beckoned...
I feared the worst. This old dog has knackered old knees that are prone to the odd boompsiedaisy. Good insurance would be needed - thankyou MPI Brokers (and no, I didn't claim a penny). Also working to a tight budget so called in a favour from Pierre & Vacances. What a fantastic chalet we got (and an equally fantastic price). Thanks Cathy!
So how did it go? I didn't like it. I bl**dy loved it!!! I can ski. Who knew!
Meribel was glorious, all decked out ready for the World Champs. The ski lessons were a joy, our daytime adventures on the slopes were an absolute blast - invigorating, rejuvenating, exhausting - and our nights out, well, what can I say? Turns out Apres Ski IS all it's cracked up to be.
Can't wait to try more new tricks next year. This old ski-dog had the greatest time...
